Newtown Election 2017: Voter's Guide

NEWTOWN, CT — With the state embroiled in its longest-ever budget impasse, the 2017 municipal elections will be instrumental in the town's direction. On Nov. 7, residents will hit the polls and vote for various local positions. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Here is a breakdown of what you need to know.

Candidates

Am I Registered?

If you do not know if you are registered to vote, you can click here.

Applications must be postmarked or received by a voter registration agency by the 7th day before an election, which is Oct. 31. However, if you miss the deadline for registering for an election, Connecticut now offers same-day voter registration. You can register and vote in person on Election Day at your town's Election Day Registration location. You can contact your local registrars of voters for information.

Absentee Ballots

You can vote by absentee due to the following reasons:

• Illness or physical disability
• Absence from town during all election hours
• Religious beliefs forbidding secular activity on election day
• Serving as an election official at a polling place other than your own
• Active service in the Armed Forces

Special hours for absentee voting will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
