NEWTOWN, CT — Police reported a series of recent incidents including a DUI charge, a juvenile theft case linked to a stolen vehicle crash, a scooter collision that injured a child, and multiple crashes and property damage across town.
Newtown Man Charged With DUI After Being Found Unconscious in Vehicle
A Newtown man is facing a DUI charge after police said he was found unconscious in a damaged vehicle Saturday in the Big Y parking lot on Queen Street.

Officers responded around 5:16 p.m. after receiving a report that the driver appeared to have been operating erratically before parking, according to police. The man, identified as Michael David Barbour, 37, of Newtown, was awakened by officers, who determined he did not require immediate medical attention.
Following an investigation, Barbour was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. In Connecticut, the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving is 0.08 percent for those 21 and older.

Barbour was released on a non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 2 at Danbury Superior Court.
Juvenile Charged in Connection With Vehicle Theft and Burglary Spanning Newtown and Trumbull
A juvenile has been charged in connection with a series of incidents that included a vehicle burglary in Newtown and a stolen vehicle crash in Trumbull, according to police.
Newtown officers said they learned early Sunday morning that juveniles in a stolen vehicle involved in a crash in Trumbull had been in Newtown earlier, where money was taken from an unlocked vehicle parked at a residence on Valley View Road.
Investigators determined one of the juveniles from the crashed vehicle was responsible for entering the unlocked car in Newtown and stealing cash. The youth was charged with sixth-degree larceny and given a court date at New Haven Juvenile Matters.
Police said Monroe and Trumbull police handled the investigations into the stolen vehicle and crash.
Child on Scooter Injured in Collision With Vehicle on Robin Hill Road
A child was injured Thursday evening when an electric scooter and a vehicle collided on Robin Hill Road, according to police.
Police said a 2023 Ram, driven by Guilherme Lara Freitas, 23, of Danbury, was traveling westbound around 6:03 p.m. when a child rode out of a driveway on an electric scooter and was struck.
The child, identified as Cody Garbowski, 13, of Newtown, suffered a broken wrist and was taken to Danbury Hospital by his parents before police arrived.
No injuries were reported to the driver. Police said the child received a verbal warning for violating state pedestrian regulations regarding the use of roads and sidewalks.
Two-Vehicle Collision Reported on Main Street in Newtown
A two-vehicle collision was reported Thursday morning on Main Street in front of the Newtown General Store, according to police.
Police said a 2020 GMC Sierra, driven by Joseph Boccuzzi, 50, of Fairfield, was backing out of a parking space around 8:41 a.m. when its trailer hitch struck the right rear fender and tire of a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Matthew Bahr, 29, of Newtown. The Volkswagen had stopped in the southbound lane to allow a pedestrian to cross the street.
No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to leave the scene without being towed, police said.
Boccuzzi was issued a written warning for unsafe backing.
Vehicle Strikes Mailbox and Trees on Berkshire Road in Newtown
A vehicle left the roadway and struck a mailbox and trees early Tuesday on Berkshire Road, according to police.
Police said a 2016 Subaru Impreza, driven by Michael Morrison, 39, of Sandy Hook, was traveling southbound around 3:14 a.m. when it went off the right side of the road, hitting a mailbox at 214 Berkshire Road before continuing across Chestnut Hill Road and into trees.
The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported, and Morrison declined medical evaluation, police said.
He was issued a verbal warning for failure to maintain lane.
Truck Strikes Docking Bay Door at Ethan Allen Facility in Newtown
A truck struck a garage door at the Ethan Allen facility on Ethan Allen Road Friday night, causing significant property damage, according to police.
Police said a 2020 Freightliner owned by Ryder Truck Rental was backing up around 10:13 p.m. when its rear end hit the docking bay garage door. The impact dented the door and knocked it off its rails.
The truck sustained minor damage but remained operable, police said. The driver, identified as Rodriguez Seraphin, 39, of East Taunton, MA, was not injured.
Seraphin told officers there was no door warning visible at the time, which made it difficult to gauge the distance while backing up.
Police noted the incident occurred on private property and no enforcement action was authorized.
Two Newtown Residents Face Charges in May Neighborhood Dispute
Two Newtown residents were charged Saturday on outstanding warrants for their arrest stemming from a May 2025 investigation.
Officers responded to 35 High Rock Road for a reported neighborhood dispute, where they located Troy Anthony Gordon, 45, and Natasha Letiqua Yates-Gordon, 42, both of the same address, according to police.
Police said both residents were processed and each charged with one count of disorderly conduct and one count of second-degree harassment.
Both were released on a written promise to appear and are scheduled to be in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 28.
Minor Collision Reported in Queen Street Parking Lot
A two-vehicle collision was reported Wednesday afternoon in a Queen Street parking lot, according to police.
Police said a 2024 Ford Bronco, driven by Alexis Corral Arteta of Newtown, was backing out of a parking space around 3:47 p.m. when it struck the rear bumper of a 2023 Subaru Impreza parked nearby. The Subaru, owned by James Rooney of Monroe, was unoccupied at the time.
A bystander told officers the Ford left the scene after the collision. Corral Arteta told police she did not believe her vehicle had made contact with anything, and the vehicle’s owner said no damage was found on the Bronco. Rooney reported damage to the rear passenger side of the Subaru.
No injuries were reported. Police noted the incident occurred on private property and no enforcement action was authorized.
Surveillance Video Captures Parking Lot Collision on Pecks Lane
A minor collision in a Pecks Lane parking lot was documented on surveillance video Wednesday, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2010 Lexus RX 350, driven by Thomas A. Ciccarone of Danbury, backed out of a parking space at 31 Pecks Lane around 4:28 p.m. and scraped the right side of a parked 2012 Cadillac CTS. The Cadillac, owned by Tyquan Jamar Bailey of Torrington, was unoccupied at the time.
The incident was recorded on exterior building cameras, police said. Bailey chose not to pursue charges.
Ciccarone later told officers he had not realized a collision occurred but confirmed new damage to the front right of his vehicle after checking.
No injuries were reported, no vehicles were towed, and police said no enforcement action was taken because the incident happened on private property.
Driver Taken to Hospital After Berkshire Road Crash
A Monroe man was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after his vehicle struck roadside rocks on Berkshire Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said Terry L. Greene, 77, of Monroe, was driving a 2019 Honda Ridgeline north on Berkshire Road between Great Quarter Road and Jordan Hill Road around 9:16 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway. The Honda struck a rock, continued forward, hit several more rocks, and came to rest just beyond utility pole #1613.
Greene was evaluated by Newtown EMS at the scene before being transported to Danbury Hospital with what police described as minor injuries.
The Honda sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene, police said. Greene received a verbal warning for operating a motor vehicle while using a handheld mobile device.
Minor Damage Reported After Mirrors Strike on Nunnawauk Road
Two vehicles sustained minor damage Wednesday morning after their driver’s side mirrors struck while passing on Nunnawauk Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2018 Ford F-250 Super Duty driven by Richard H. Conrod, 67, of Newtown, was headed west on Nunnawauk Road around 8:27 a.m. when it passed a Senator II bus operated by Housatonic Area Regional Transit traveling east. Due to the narrow width of the roadway, the mirrors of both vehicles made contact, police said.
The Ford sustained damage to its driver’s side mirror, while the bus also received similar damage. No injuries were reported and no enforcement action was taken.
Passengers aboard the bus were not injured, according to the report.
Unoccupied Vehicle Rolls Down Embankment on Turkey Hill Road
An unoccupied car rolled down an embankment Tuesday afternoon on Turkey Hill Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2004 Toyota Avalon, owned by Lorina Marie Ouimette of Newtown, had been parked on a grassy area near 28 Turkey Hill Road around 5:38 p.m. when it began to move forward. The vehicle traveled down an embankment before coming to rest against a fallen tree limb.
No one was inside the car at the time, and no injuries were reported. Police said the Toyota was not towed.
