Newtown Police Log: Main Street Collisions, Bridge Strike, And Disorderly Conduct Reported
Newtown police reported several motor vehicle incidents and a disorderly conduct case between Sept. 23 and Oct. 8.
NEWTOWN, CT — Police responded to a series of incidents across town in late September and early October, including several roadway collisions, a bridge strike involving a motorhome, and a dispute that led to a disorderly conduct charge in Sandy Hook.
Sept. 23 – Berkshire Road:
A BMW driven by Rossy Urbaez-Medina of Danbury went off Berkshire Road while negotiating a curve near Old Mill Road, striking a Frontier Communications utility pole and a road sign. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation. The car was towed from the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.

Sept. 25 – Main Street:
Police said a Toyota Camry driven by Kevin Shearer of Bridgeport slid across the center line on Main Street and struck a northbound construction truck. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed. Shearer received infractions for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to maintain lane.

Oct. 1 – South Main Street:
A Toyota RAV4 backed into a Ford Econoline van after stopping mid-turn into a driveway at 49 South Main St., according to police. The driver, a Newtown resident, received an infraction for unsafe backing. No injuries were reported.
Oct. 1 – Currituck Road:
A 14-foot motorhome towing a Jeep struck a 10-foot, 6-inch railroad bridge, shearing equipment from its roof. Debris from the roof damaged the towed Jeep. The driver, Kenneth Strickland of North Carolina, was issued a verbal warning. Both vehicles were towed.
Oct. 3 – Sugar Street:
A Honda CR-V collided with a parked Jeep on private property at 55 Sugar St. The driver said he was turning to park when the vehicles made contact. No injuries were reported and, because it occurred on private property, no enforcement action was taken.
Oct. 3 – Main Street and Church Hill Road:
A Hyundai Kona and a Ford Expedition collided as both vehicles attempted to pass cars waiting to turn left. Police said the Hyundai driver received a written warning for passing on the right. No injuries were reported.
Oct. 6 – Queen Street Parking Lot:
Police said a white SUV failed to stop at a lot’s stop sign and struck a Toyota Corolla driven by Anna Roussas of Newtown. The SUV left the scene. No injuries were reported.
Oct. 6 – Great Ring Road:
Officers responded to a dispute at a residence on Great Ring Road, where Joseph Stromsky, 28, of Sandy Hook, was charged with disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court the next day.
Oct. 8 – Walnut Tree Hill Road:
Police said a Jeep Patriot turning left from Schoolhouse Hill Road onto Walnut Tree Hill Road struck a southbound Toyota Highlander. The Jeep’s driver was issued an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.
Oct. 8 – Covered Bridge Road:
A parked Buick Envision was struck when a 2006 Angus-Palm work vehicle backed into it. The Buick was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.
