Newtown Sidewalk Project to Connect Fairfield Hills and Downtown: Report

The project is awaiting state approval, and construction could begin as early as this year.

NEWTOWN, CT — If you want to make the 1.5-mile walk from downtown Newtown to the Fairfield Hills campus, you would have to do so without sidewalks. According to a report from the News Times, that could soon change.

A project to install 1.1 miles of sidewalk which would connect Main Street to the new activity centers being planned for the Fairfield Hills campus, the former site of the state hospital. The project would cost $900,000, which would largely be paid by a state grant.

Town officials say the land use commissions have approved the work, and that the project is awaiting approval from the state's Department of Transportation. There is already a community center and a senior center planned for the Fairfield Hills campus.
