Newtowners Travel to Orlando to #DisarmHate

The groups will rally in Washington to demand equal rights and realistic gun law reform and to make sure the 'Orlando 49' didn't die in vain

NEWTOWN, CT — Two Sandy Hook groups created in the wake of the Sandy Hook School shootings and a state nonprofit are planning a trip to a Washington, D.C., rally on Saturday to mark the three-month anniversary of the Pulse night club massacre on Orlando.

Connecticut Against Gun Violence, Newtown Action Alliance and Sandy Hook Promise are sponsoring buses from Newtown to Washington D.C. to attend a rally to #DisarmHate, a hashtag they have created to raise awareness and make a change to stop gun violence.

"It's time to step out of the shadows and stand up for Equal Rights for all," organizers wrote on their website. "So that the Orlando49 did not die in vain, the LGBTQ community -- and our allies -- will rally in Washington to demand equal rights and realistic gun law reform."
