Newtown Pedestrian Crash Victim Identified: State Police

NEWTOWN, CT — A person who police say was struck by a car on I-84 at exit 11 in Newtown has died, according to the Connecticut State Police. Gerard M. Mauskapf, 64, of Red Hook, NY, was killed when he was struck by another car after he got out of his car on the exit ramp at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday morning. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Police say a Sandy Hook man, 18, was driving the car that struck Mauskapf. He was not injured during the crash, and no charges have been filed.

According to the police report, Mauskapf's 2014 Ford Fusion pulled over on the right shoulder on a sweeping right curve on the exit ramp and he exited the car. The 2007 Subaru Impreza being driven by the Sandy Hook man later crashed into Mauskapf and his car.

Both cars were towed from the scene.

The exit 11 ramp was closed due to the collision and re-opened at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to State Police. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact TFC Cimelus No. 1271 at Troop-A, Southbury at 203-267-2200.
