Police Respond To Fight At Game, Crashes, And More Across Newtown
Police reported multiple incidents in Newtown this past week, including a fight at a football game and several vehicle crashes.
NEWTOWN, CT — Police responded to multiple incidents across town in recent days, including a fight at a high school football game, several vehicle crashes, and a threatening case, according to official reports.
Sisters Charged After Fight at Newtown High School Football Game
Two sisters from Bristol are facing charges after police said they were involved in a fight during a football game at Newtown High School.

According to Newtown police, officers responded to the visitor sidelines of the school’s football field around 2:04 p.m. on Sept. 21 for a report of a physical altercation. After an investigation, police determined that Tammie Lou Walker, 58, and her sister, Wendie Walker-Parks, 55, were involved in a fight with another woman.
Police said the confrontation stemmed from a prior argument. Both women were charged with second-degree breach of peace and released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 2.

Driver Hospitalized After Striking USPS Sign on Commerce Road in Newtown
A Danbury man was taken to the hospital on Sept. 24 after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a postal service sign on Commerce Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2012 Nissan Titan driven by Luciano Decampos, 70, was traveling south on Commerce Road around 2:52 p.m. when it crossed the center line, veered off the road, and hit a large concrete U.S. Postal Service sign near 5 Commerce Road.
Decampos told officers he remembered turning onto Commerce Road before beginning to feel unwell and realizing he was off the road. He stayed off the roadway because another vehicle was traveling northbound, police said.
The truck sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene. Decampos was transported by Brookfield EMS to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
He was issued an infraction for failure to maintain a lane.
Sandy Hook Woman Charged in August Threatening, Disorderly Conduct Case
A Sandy Hook woman turned herself in to Newtown police on Sept. 26 in connection with an incident that occurred in August, according to authorities.
Police said Natasha Letiqua Yates-Gordon, 42, of High Rock Road, came to the police department around 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 26 on a warrant stemming from an Aug. 1 incident on High Rock Road. Following processing, Yates-Gordon was charged with second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct.
She was released on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Oct. 7.
Driver Injured After SUV Rolls Over on Pecks Lane
A Newtown woman was taken to the hospital on Sept. 24 after her vehicle rolled over on Pecks Lane, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2023 Kia Sportage driven by Andrea Farley, 69, was traveling from South Main Street onto Pecks Lane around 4:02 p.m. when it veered off the road and struck a utility pole before flipping onto its roof.
Farley told officers she recalled making the turn but did not remember how the crash occurred, later suggesting she may have blacked out behind the wheel.
The vehicle struck a Frontier Communications utility pole that sustained significant damage and will need replacement, police said. Eversource and Frontier were both notified.
Farley suffered minor lacerations to her ankles from broken glass while escaping the vehicle. She was taken to Danbury Hospital by Newtown Ambulance for evaluation.
The vehicle was towed from the scene. Police said no enforcement action was taken.
Newtown Man Charged in July Incident at Community Center
A Sandy Hook man turned himself in to Newtown police Wednesday in connection with a July incident at the Newtown Community Center, according to authorities.
Police said Adam Bowditch, 23, of Grays Plain Road, surrendered on a warrant stemming from a July 22 incident. Following an investigation, Bowditch was charged with risk of injury to a child, disorderly conduct, and tampering with evidence.
He was released after posting 7 percent of a $2,500 court-set bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 9 in Danbury Superior Court.
Passenger Injured in Two-Vehicle Collision on Hanover Road in Newtown
A passenger was taken to the hospital Tuesday night after a two-vehicle collision on Hanover Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by Sergio Antonio Salazar Cobos of Waterbury was turning left from a private driveway onto Hanover Road around 8:01 p.m. when it failed to grant the right of way to a northbound 2016 Lexus GX 460 driven by Richard King of Newtown.
The left side of the GMC struck the front left portion of the Lexus’s bumper, police said. Both drivers reported no injuries, while a passenger in the Lexus sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Both vehicles were operable from the scene.
Salazar Cobos was issued an infraction for failure to grant the right of way from a driveway, police said.
Minor Parking Lot Collision Reported at Church Hill Road Plaza
Police responded the evening of Sept. 25 to a minor parking lot collision outside 100 Church Hill Road, according to a report from the Newtown Police Department.
Investigators said a 2019 GMC Sierra driven by Sevy Ryan Martin of Sandy Hook backed into a 2025 Toyota RAV4 owned by Leann Mayer of Monroe while backing out of a parking space around 7:26 p.m.
Martin stopped after the contact, checked the vehicles for damage, photographed the scene, and attempted to locate the owner of the RAV4, police said. He also contacted management at Cover Two Sports Bar to determine whether anyone had reported their vehicle struck.
Both vehicles sustained only minor damage, and no injuries were reported.
Police said no enforcement action was taken.
Minor Damage Reported After Vehicle Backs into Parked Car at Hawleyville Road Gas Station
Two vehicles sustained minor damage Wednesday night after one backed into a parked car at a gas station on Hawleyville Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said an Audi driven by William Bernard Brown of Naples, FL, was backing out of a parking space at 26 Hawleyville Road around 8:47 p.m. when the left rear bumper struck the left rear passenger door of a parked 2014 BMW 535xi owned by Thomas Haggerty Doyle of Thomaston.
Both vehicles were operable and no injuries were reported, police said.
Because the incident occurred on private property, no enforcement action was taken.
Minor Rear-End Collision Reported on Church Hill Road in Newtown
Two vehicles sustained minor damage the afternoon of Sept. 29 in a rear-end collision on Church Hill Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2015 Acura TLX driven by Qerime Dido of Waterbury was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road around 4:12 p.m. when it struck the rear of a 2016 BMW 328xi that was stopped in traffic. The BMW was driven by Anthony Damico of Newtown.
No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to leave the scene on their own, police said.
Dido was issued a verbal warning for following too closely, resulting in an accident.
Minor Rear-End Crash Reported on Berkshire Road
Two vehicles sustained minor damage last Monday afternoon in a rear-end collision on Berkshire Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 1992 Toyota Camry driven by Darren Erwin Pierre of Shelton struck the rear of a 2021 Nissan Altima driven by Sharifa Ghafoor of Shelton around 4:36 p.m. near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Liberty Drive. The Nissan had slowed for another vehicle turning left onto Liberty Drive when it was hit from behind, police said.
No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to leave the scene without requiring a tow.
Pierre was issued a verbal warning for following too closely, resulting in a motor vehicle accident, police said.
Minor Collision Reported in M&T Bank Drive-Thru on Queen Street
A minor collision occurred the morning of Sept. 27 in the drive-thru lane of M&T Bank on Queen Street, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2017 Nissan Titan driven by Ronald G. Davis of Sandy Hook was stopped behind a 2018 Chevrolet Trax driven by Karen Browning of Newtown around 11:40 a.m. when Davis’s foot slipped off the brake, causing his vehicle to move forward and make contact with the rear of Browning’s car.
Browning told officers she experienced pain in her arms but declined medical attention at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to drive away, police said.
Because the incident occurred on private property, police said no enforcement action was taken.
No Injuries Reported After Two-Vehicle Crash on South Main Street
A two-vehicle collision occurred Sept. 19 on South Main Street near Country Club Road, according to Newtown police.
Police said a 2016 Toyota 4Runner driven by John Millar of Southbury was waiting to turn left onto Country Club Road around 3:38 p.m. when the crash occurred. A southbound 2016 Mazda3, driven by Gregory Andrew Csuka of Monroe, was traveling in the right lane when Millar began to turn left across traffic, police said.
An unknown vehicle in the left southbound lane had stopped to allow Millar to turn, but the 4Runner failed to yield and was struck on the front passenger side by the Mazda, which had the right of way, according to police.
No injuries were reported, but the Mazda was towed due to disabling damage. Millar was issued a written warning for making a restricted turn.
