Politicians React to Llodra Retirement Announcement
After announcing her impending retirement, Newtown First Selectman Patricia Llodra received high praise from several state politicians.

NEWTOWN, CT — Lauding her leadership through the town's darkest days, several politicians have voiced well wishes and support for Newtown First Selectman Patricia Llodra after it was reported she would not seek a fifth term in the town's highest office Thursday. Llodra led the town through the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting of 2012, and oversaw the construction of the new $50 million Sandy Hook school during her tenure.
Llodra said she will retire after her term expires in November.
"During the town’s darkest hours, Pat worked day in and day out to bring stability, peace, and unity when her community needed it most," said Gov. Dannel Malloy. "Having spent many hours with her in the weeks and months that followed, she became a true and trusted friend, and I thank her for her partnership during those trying times."

“Friend. Mentor. Leader. These are but a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Pat Llodra. It has been an honor to work with her for the betterment of Newtown," said Hwang."She is tireless, she is selfless, and she is strong. Pat’s emphasis on commitment to community and simple acts of kindness has had – and will continue to have - a positive influence on how we live our lives. Simply put, Pat Llodra loves Newtown and its people. She is a very special person – someone I admire greatly – and I wish her nothing but the very best in the future."
The Republican Llodra won the Selectman's seat in 2009.
“I want to thank Pat for her service to the people of Newtown, particularly her tirelessness and empathy when tragedy struck the community," said Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman in a statement. She is a true public servant and excellent civic leader. I wish her only the best.”
