Popular Newtown Restaurant Quickly Recovers After Chimney Fire
Newtown fire companies were called in Friday night to tackle a structure fire at a popular Main Street restaurant.
NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown fire companies were called in Friday night to tackle a structure fire at a popular Indian Restaurant.
Jewel of Himalya was back in business the next day, after what Botsford Fire Rescue officials described as "minor smoke damage."
Multiple calls for "heavy smoke in the building, possibly a chimney fire," were placed, summoning all local fire companies to the 266 South Main Street business. Crews found fire in a faux chimney around a ventless gas fireplace, opened up the walls, and used water cans to extinguish the fire, according to Botsford social media. The fire was held to the immediate area around the firebox.
