Sandy Hook Man, 19, Charged in Gas Station Robbery: Police

BREAKING: Following a four-month investigation, police have made an arrest in the Rte. 25 robbery.

NEWTOWN, CT — A 19-year-old Sandy Hook man was arrested and charged in connection with the robbery of the South Main Street Citgo Gas Station on Jan. 20, Newtown police announced Tuesday. Stephen Violet of Underhill Road was arrested on a superior court warrant, charging him with first degree robbery.

"This was great police work both, by both the Norwalk Police Department and the Detectives' Unit from the Newtown Police Department, who worked in cooperation, in putting this case together, that lead to this suspect, Stephen Violet, being arrested today" Lt. Aaron Bahamonde said in a statement Tuesday.

At the time of the robbery, police announced that two suspects armed with handguns stole cash from the store's register. No injuries were reported at the time.

Police say that Violet has been in the custody of the Department of Corrections since Jan. 23, and was in their custody at the time of the arrest. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
