How did you come up with the name?
I have always been drawn to crystals which can be very calming and grounding. My mom’s maiden name was Green. She passed away many years ago. As it turns out, green calcite crystal correlates to muscle and soft tissue so it ended up being the perfect name - Green Crystal Massage!
Why choose that location? Why start a business in this town?
I moved with my family to Newtown in early 2012 and was taking a walk in Sandy Hook. I saw the space I’m in now and said what a great location for a massage studio. It’s quiet and private and it’s on the river. Sure enough in January 2014 when I was looking for space to rent, the spot was available.
Briefly, what business are you in?
I am a licensed massage therapist and specialize in a pain relieving, relaxing massage. My clients are often pleasantly surprised when they realize that my massage alleviates their pain. There are so many additional benefits as well. I also recently completed the intensive Mother Massage prenatal program.
What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
I am excited too about the initiation of Retreat on the River which is a series of informational and inspiring workshops. The first is taking place on Friday April 24th at 6:30 p.m. at Village Perk Cafe with a program led by an Emmy award winning songwriter.
What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?
The most challenging moment I’ve faced as a business owner was the moment I signed the lease! Within 2 weeks though I knew I was at the right place doing the right thing.
Were there any challenges that made you second guess your decision to be an entrepreneur?
I am an entrepreneur at heart. I thrive on hard work and have a passion for what I do. It gives me peace of mind and a sense of true accomplishment to implement my own ideas and have control of my schedule.
What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?
Every day that I unlock the door and walk into my studio is a proud moment. Every person that has walked through my door has been a joy to meet and get to know.
What’s the most innovative idea your employees or customers have had that you put into practice?
To accommodate my client’s schedules I am open for appointments most evenings and weekends in addition to weekday hours.
How does your business give back or get involved in the community?
It’s always my pleasure to support local fundraisers with a gift of massage.
