WEATHER UPDATE: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Flooding Possible For Father's Day

The National Weather Service is predicting up to two inches of rain in parts of Connecticut on Sunday with the possibility of flooding.

The National Weather Service is predicting rain will begin falling in Connecticut between 9 p.m. and midnight Saturday and continue through Sunday afternoon before tapering off.

The rain will be at its heaviest in the early morning on Father’s Day. The entire state will see at least one inch of rain and communities along the immediate coastline are expected to see up to two inches of rain.

Flooding will be a concern in certain locales and thunderstorms are also possible through Sunday. The storm comes courtesy of the remnants of Tropical Storm Bill.

The National Weather Service has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote on social media Saturday “Not too pretty of a day (Saturday). Brief shower SW CT but not much today 70s. Rain & thunders blasts through Sunday AM. 1”-3” of rain then dry Sunday PM.”

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Darren Sweeney writes on social media Saturday that on Sunday “Morning rain will taper to PM showers and storms.There will be a few hours of dry weather during the afternoon. By the time it all wraps up, an inch or two of rain.”
