No. Branford Woman Seriously Hurt In Crash With Driver Who Was Impaired, Unlicensed: Cops

NORTH BRANFORD, CT — A 24-year-old woman was seriously hurt in a crash on Friday night in North Branford with an impaired driver whose license was suspended, police said.

The North Branford Police Department's 911 center received multiple calls reporting a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Foxon Road and Totoket Road at around 8:41 p.m., and first responders were dispatched, quickly arriving at the scene, according to police.

The woman, a resident of the area, had serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment, police said.

In a statement on Facebook, the department's brass said they are "relieved" to report the woman is in serious, but stable condition.

"Our thoughts are with her, her family, and her loved ones as we hope for a speedy recovery," the statement said.

Department officials extended their gratitude to the North Branford Volunteer Fire Department for members' "professionalism and swift response in providing critical care and ensuring the victim received advanced medical attention."

Ricardo Rojas, 30, of East Haven, CT, was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree assault with a motor vehicle in connection with the crash.

He was additionally charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, operating a suspended driver’s license, failure to obey traffic signals, reckless driving, and unsafe passing.

Rojas posted $100,000 bond and was released, pending his next court date on Jan. 14, 2025 in New Haven.

It is not clear if he has legal representation.

Police, along with the South Central Accident Reconstruction Unit, are continuing to investigate with the support of regional partners and the New Haven State’s Attorney’s office, department officials said.

Concluding their statement, officials said that they are "committed to ensuring justice for the victim and her loved ones and will provide updates as they become available.”
