North Branford Man Gets 5-Year Prison Term For 2023 Fatal Dog Stabbing: Court
The catch? His prison term will be suspended after he serves 17 months locked up for repeatedly stabbing, killing, his daughter's dog: Court

NORTH BRANFORD, CT — In November 2023, Arnaldo Silva, of North Branford, was charged with first degree animal cruelty for maliciously killing his daughter's dog, police said and court records show.
Last week, Silva, 54, was sentenced to five years in prison, execution suspended after 17 months served, for brutally killing his daughter's two-year-old dog, according to New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle, Jr.
After his release, he'll serve three years of probation.

On Nov. 13, 2023, police searching Silva's Northford home "found a bloody kitchen knife and a bulldog belonging to Silva’s daughter dead in a dog kennel at the home," a news release from Doyle reads. "A necropsy revealed the 2-year-old dog died as a result of multiple stab wounds."
On April 9, in New Haven Superior Court, Silva pleaded guilty to charges of Cruelty to Animals, Falsely Reporting an Incident, and of Violation of Conditions of Release.

The cases were investigated by the North Branford Police Department and prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney David J. Strollo.
