North Branford Town Council Creates New Veterans Service Commission
The new commission will create, oversee, and support events commemorating veterans in the community and their service to the nation.

NORTH BRANFORD, CT – The North Branford Town Council voted unanimously in favor of a new ordinance creating a Veteran's Service Commission at its Oct. 17 meeting, according to Town Manager Michael P. Downes.
The new Commission will create, oversee, and support events commemorating Veterans in our community and their service to our nation, including but not limited to Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Patriot Day, Sept. 11. The commission will also initiate a Purple Heart Community designation for the town, and create a North Branford Veteran's Hall of Fame.
“Our veterans are an honored and vital part of our community here in North Branford, and this Commission gives us the ability to focus on their proper recognition,” North Branford Mayor Jeff Macmillen said. “We know that this town is proud of and strongly supports our veteran residents who served and sacrificed for our freedom. This new Commission will provide us an organized avenue to focus on public recognitions that we as a town should be making, and I look forward to seeing this Committee get off the ground and get to work.”

The commission will be composed of five members and three alternates appointed by the Town Council. Members must be veterans of any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States or have a veteran in their immediate family.
“Our veterans are responsible for the freedom we enjoy today, and locally we should be doing more to recognize what they have given us,” Deputy Mayor Thomas Zampano said. “The new Commission will give us the opportunity to make lasting town-wide recognitions of our veteran community going forward.”
