One Library Closed Tuesday Due To Near 100° Scorching Heat, Other Is Cooling Center
Edward Smith Library is closed today, but Atwater Memorial Library is open until 8 p.m. and is a designated cooling center through Thursday.
NORTH BRANFORD, CT — Due to the extreme heat advisory, where feels-like temperatures are forecasted to soar to 105° and actual temps will reach 97°, the Edward Smith Library is closed today, town officials said.
The National Weather Service posted an alert for the area, advising folks that the heat index is expected to reach 107°.
The Atwater Memorial Library will be open until 8 p.m., and is available as a public cooling center.

The town, following the state's Extreme Hot Weather Protocol, opened cooling centers at Town Hall and Atwater Library now through Thursday.
North Branford Town Hall, 909 Foxon Road, is open for cooling, and shelter from the oppressive heat until 4:30 p.m.

The Atwater Memorial Library, 1720 Foxon Road, is open until 8 p.m. Those needing cooling shelter will be able to access the main entrance, community room, and bathroom at any point during the day.
