Former North Branford 3-Term Mayor Anthony Candelora Has Died: Town Manager

Town Manager Michael Downes announced Candelora's passing and noted that all flags in North Branford are ordered to fly at half staff.

NORTH BRANFORD, CT — Former North Branford Mayor Anthony Candelora has passed away, Town Manager Michael Downes confirmed Monday.

"The Town of North Branford is grieving the loss of former Mayor and Town Council member Anthony Candelora following a lengthy illness.," Downes said.

"Candelora leaves behind a tremendous legacy of dedication and public service," he wrote, adding the entire town "extends its deepest sympathies to the Candelora family, and Anthony’s friends and loved ones."

Candelora, 62, was the brother of House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora.

Candelora served three terms as North Branford's mayor beginning in 2008. The Republican Town Committee also noted Candelora's passing on Facebook.

"Our hearts go out to the Candelora family," the social media post reads.

Candelora was the VP Sales & Marketing for Taconic Wire.

In accordance with the town's flag policy, North Branford Mayor Rose Angeloni has ordered that U.S. flags at all Town of North Branford municipal buildings, schools, and facilities be lowered to half-staff in honor of his passing. Individuals, businesses, and other private entities within North Branford are encouraged to do the same.

Flags should be lowered at all stations effective noon, Monday July 14, 2025, until interment on a date yet to be determined.

Since no flag shall fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags including the state flag should also be lowered.
