Legendary North Haven Baseball Coach Bob DeMayo Retires
DeMayo is the winningest high school baseball coach in Connecticut history, with more than 900 victories over a 63-year career.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — Legendary North Haven High School baseball coach Bob DeMayo has retired after more than 60 years, officials announced Tuesday.
DeMayo announced his retirement to the varsity team on Monday afternoon, according to North Haven Athletic Director Steve Blumenthal.
DeMayo, the winningest high school baseball coach in Connecticut with more than 900 victories, tried to sum up his 63-year career, saying “I have tried to teach my players the many levels of this marvelous game – fine-tuning their skills for the basics and, when possible, introducing the intricacies which can result in a victory when you have no right to the win,” according to a news release.

During his illustrious coaching career, DeMayo led North Haven to five state championships, 19 Housatonic League championships, two Southern Connecticut Conference championships and numerous division titles.
In his statement to the team, DeMayo said, “I will take with me wonderful memories of athletes who have played for me, amazing and supportive assistant coaches and administrators…and my family has always been super supportive and my wife, Bette, has been by my side, cheering me on - my biggest fan by far.”
