North Haven Football Forfeits Season-Opening Game
The North Haven High School football team has forfeited its season-opening game as officials investigate "inappropriate student conduct."
NORTH HAVEN, CT — The defending Class MM champion North Haven football team has forfeited its 2023 season-opening game against Darien, school officials announced Friday.
North Haven school officials are investigating "inappropriate student conduct," according to Superintendent Patrick Stirk.
"Based on serious concerns that came to our attention at the end of the school day, North Haven High School will forfeit tonight's varsity football game versus Darien High School," Stirk wrote in an email to the school community. "At this time, the district is conducting an investigation concerning allegations of inappropriate student conduct. We take allegations of this nature very seriously and hold our student-athletes to high standards.

"If such conduct is substantiated, the district will take further action as it deems appropriate."
North Haven Football coach Anthony Sagnella told GameTimeCT the forfeit was "because of an in-house disciplinary issue that came to light a couple of hours ago."

Darien High School Athletic Director Chris Manfredonia said Saturday’s junior varsity game between Darien and North Haven was also canceled, according to NBC Connecticut.
