Obituary: Jeffrey Calvin Davis, 70, of North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, CT - (From Washington Memorial Funeral Home) Jeffrey Calvin Davis, born on August 21, 1951 in New Haven, Connecticut, died peacefully at his home in Old Saybrook, Connecticut after a five-year hard-fought battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jacalyn Calamita Davis of Old Saybrook; his daughter, Meredith Davis Rufino (Kevin) and his grandson, Kieran Jeffrey Taylor Rufino of Guilford, Connecticut; his sisters, Dr. Merianne D. Kaye of Miami Beach, Florida and Christine D. Morocco of Needham, Massachusetts; and a brother, Fred B. Davis of Guilford.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carolyn C. Gaetano of North Haven, Connecticut, and a brother-in-law, Frank Stephen Calamita of Palm Desert, California, along with a niece and several nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth Merian Graham and Van Buren Davis. A 1969 graduate of North Haven High School, Jeff earned an A.S. and B.S. in Accounting, and an Executive MBA from the University of New Haven.

He was member of the Army National Guard, where he was a decorated sharpshooter. Jeff began his career as a Cost Accountant at Rockbestos in New Haven. Later, he was a Corporate Controller at ABS Pumps in Meriden, Connecticut, and retired as Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis at Thule, Inc., Seymour, Connecticut.

He was a member of the National Association of Accountants. Jeff was an avid sports fan. He loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed watching the UConn Huskies Men’s and Women’s basketball teams.

In addition, he loved all things cars-collecting, driving and NASCAR. After retirement, Jeff was a proud member of the NHHS Alumni Group. He loved reconnecting with his friends and sharing retirement stories while reminiscing about their times together.

Jeff had a passion for gardening and looked forward each spring to setting up his bird feeders. He was able to see the word with his family and felt especially at home in California and Maine. He also enjoyed live music, cooking, skiing, and researching his family history. Jeff was the happiest when he was with his family.

He especially loved spending time with his grandson, Kieran, be it visiting the Guilford Marina, or going to the pool each summer at Water’s Edge in Westbrook during family vacations.

Jeff will be truly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. He exemplified what it was like to live a truly good, full life, and will be in our hearts forever.

Donations can be made in remembrance of Jeff to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Huntington Beach, California. Jeff’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, February 3rd, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.

His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Friday, February 4th at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, (St. Paul VI Parish), 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden.

Burial with Military Honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
