Truck Carrying 45,000 Pounds Of Bottled Water Rolls Over On I-91 In North Haven, Driver Hospitalized: FD

UPDATE: The scene has been cleared, and all lanes are open on I-91 South.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — The driver of a tractor-trailer was hospitalized after a rollover crash on I-91 South between Exits 13 and 12 in North Haven, according to the North Haven Fire Department.

Officials said the crash is affecting traffic on local roads, including the 300 block of Washington Avenue, in addition to the highway.

The truck was carrying a load of 45,000 pounds of bottled water, according to officials.

“Due to the weight and damage, crews will be required to off load the truck before removal,” officials wrote in a post on the North Haven Fire Department’s Facebook page. “Only a minor diesel spill was present and North Haven FF’s were able to contain it in the tanks until DEEP could arrive to pump out the tanks and recover the fuel. Nelcon heavy lift wreckers were sent to the scene and the driver of the truck was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the accident.”

Officials said Connecticut State Police and the state Department of Transportation remain at the scene to investigate and divert traffic until the crash can be cleared.

“Making travel more difficult in the area of Washington Ave was previous schedule road and utility construction,” officials wrote. “North Haven Police are on scene managing traffic. Please avoid the area for the next couple hours until cleared up.”
