"Slate School is grateful to be recognized for its important focus on arts-integrated, curiosity-driven education. It is especially meaningful to honor the arts at Slate School in Jamie Hulley's memory," said Jennifer Staple-Clark, Founder and Innovator at Slate School. The Jamie Hulley Arts Foundation shares that Jamie "was a creative soul who had the gift of seeing the world as a thing of beauty and of making all who knew her feel special."

"It is only fitting that at Slate School, the languages of music, art, and movement are recognized and celebrated as not only meaningful, but essential tools for the expression of so much of our learning. Our students move fluidly across these disciplines, often using the arts to bridge disparate schools of thought and complex issues," said Julie Mountcastle, Head of School. "The creativity of Jamie Hulley continues to inspire us all."

Each year, the students of Slate School engage in a continent study, where all students delve into something that especially intrigues them related to a particular continent. During this month, all students at Slate School are studying Oceania, with project topics ranging from Food and New Zealand Sign Language to Sydney Opera House and Music of Oceania. At Slate School, learning is built on interest, curiosity, experience, and connection.

The students of Slate School will be holding their Oceania Project Celebration on Friday, April 21, from 2-3pm. Their Project Celebration is open to the public by RSVP to Kelly Campanelli at 203-872-5900. Families, friends, neighbors, community members, and the Jamie Hulley Arts Foundation will be joining in celebration of the students' learning and project work.
