22 Residents Displaced Due To Fire At Multi-Family Residential Building In Norwalk: FD

Fire officials said crews were able to quickly evacuate some residents on the second and third floors who were unaware of the blaze.

NORWALK, CT — Over 20 residents were displaced as a result of a fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon at a multi-family residential building in Norwalk, according to fire officials.

In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Maggio said when crews arrived at the building on Lexington Avenue around 2:30 p.m., they quickly evacuated occupants on the second and third floors who were unaware of the blaze.

Firefighters found the bulk of the fire on the third floor and in sections behind the knee-walls, Maggio said.

The fire was later categorized as a "third alarm" due to the estimated occupancy load of the building and a failed fire hydrant water supply, according to Maggio.

"This was a task-heavy search operation due to the dwelling being operated as a rooming house," Maggio said in a news release.

The fire was ultimately brought under control and no injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross is assisting with temporary housing for 22 displaced residents, according to Maggio.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze, Maggio said.
