Duff Appoints Police Chief Kulhawik to State Sentencing Commission
The commission reviews the state's criminal justice and sentencing policies and laws.

State Sen. Majority Leader Bob Duff, a Norwalk Democrat, has appointed the city’s police chief, Thomas Kulhawik, to a seat on the Connecticut Sentencing Commission.
The commission reviews the state’s criminal justice and sentencing policies and laws.
“Chief Kulhawik has served the City of Norwalk with distinction,” Duff said in a news release. “His three decades of law enforcement experience will make him a great asset and resource for the Sentencing Commission.”

“I am honored by this appointment by Sen Duff,” Kulhawik said in the same news release. “The Sentencing Commission has been involved in very important work and I am looking forward to being a part of this esteemed group of professionals from throughout the state.”
Kulhawik was appointed police chief on July 11, 2012 and has been on the city police force since 1983. He began his career as a patrol officer and was promoted to detective in 1987, sergeant in 1995, lieutenant in 2000 and, in 2007, to deputy chief.

He has worked in patrol, narcotics, general investigations and community policing. Kulhawik holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a master’s degree in public administration.
