Firefighter Injured Saving Pet From Apartment Building Fire In Norwalk: FD

Fire officials said the blaze broke out at an apartment building that is a converted factory and several pets were rescued by firefighters.

NORWALK, CT — A firefighter was injured rescuing a pet from an apartment building fire Sunday night in Norwalk, according to fire officials.

In a news release provided by the department, Deputy Chief Timothy Reardon said the fire was reported around 10:40 p.m. in the bathroom ceiling of a first-floor unit at a two-story apartment building.

According to Reardon, the building, located on Grand Street, was once a factory that was converted into an apartment building.

When crews arrived, they found the fire burning within the wall of adjacent first floor units, as well as the ceiling between the building's first and second floors, Reardon said.

The fire was extinguished in about 35 minutes, however two first floor units were damaged by fire and smoke, according to Reardon.

All residents exited the building and several pets were safely removed by firefighters, Reardon said.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury while rescuing a pet from one of the apartments. No other injuries were reported, according to Reardon.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire, Reardon said.
