Former Norwalk High School Dean Named New Canaan High Principal

William D. Egan, a high school principal in Litchfield, has been named the next principal of New Canaan High School after an extensive search, the school district has announced.

Egan has been principal of Wamogo Regional High School, a regional school that also includes a middle school in the Region 6 school district in Litchfield. In 2014, the school was one of the 51 around the nation named by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School.

Wamogo Middle School is currently the only school in the state named a “Spotlight School” for 2014-2017 by the New England League of Middle Schools.

Egan is familiar with Fairfield County: He previously worked an assistant principal at Brookfield High School and dean of students at Norwalk High School. He’s taught business courses to high school students and “language arts” and math to middle school students.

“Mr. Egan demonstrated the attributes the New Canaan High School community sought — his outstanding leadership abilities as an innovative and intuitive leader of staff and students; dedication to the concept and practice of positive school culture and core values; understanding of the value parents as partners bring to the educational experience; expertise as an instructional leader with a deep understanding of current standards and assessment processes; experience with the implementation of technology into curriculum as a tool and resource,” New Canaan schools Superintendent Bryan Luizzi said in a news release.

Egan will take over from Dr. Veronica LeDuc, the acting principal at New Canaan High School this year. He officially starts work on July 1.

Luizzi thanked the search committee, saying their work was “instrumental” in helping identify Egan as a good candidate.
