Rilling Condemns Specious Robo-Calls Suggesting He Would Increase Taxes
During a press conference in which Republican Nick Kydes endorsed Harry Rilling, the topic of robocalls was cited by Rilling as disingenuous and inappropriate.
Republican Councilman Nicholas Kydes, who is not running for re-election introduced Rilling on Thursday afternoon at a press conference outside City Hall, just beyond rows of bronze plaques dedicated to veterans that Rilling recently pointed out haven't been updated in eight years.
"Harry, I wish you good luck. You have my support," Kydes said. "Vote for Harry, vote for John," Kydes said, referring to his cousin, a Democrat who is running for Common Council. "Vote for the team and I think Norwalk is going to have happier days ahead."
"I'm very pleased to have the support of someone of the caliber of Nick, another servant of the city of Norwalk... Never once did I hear Nick make a comment that was self-serving or wasn't in the best interest of the greater good," Rilling said.
"We have support from a cross-section of all parts of the community," Rilling continued, gesturing to a dozen supporters holding up "Rilling" signs.
"We have not loaded up the newspaper with negativity...letters directed at Richard Moccia. It is disingenuous, inappropriate and frankly not what the public wants to hear," Rilling said.
"A robocall suggesting that I will raise taxes if elected when in fact this fiscal year taxes went up 4 percent is insulting to the taxpayers who have to pay that 4 percent. I had hoped we could stick to the issues in this race," Rilling said.
Rilling concluded his remarks by saying, "After Nov 5 we're gong to keep working for the City of Norwalk...trying to get Norwalk out of neutral and get the wheels to stop spinning and moving forward once again."
