If Your Elderly Norwalk Parent Could Get Lost, This May Help
If he or she is a Norwalk resident, they can wear a small device from Project Lifesaver, which could mean they get found quickly.

The families of elderly people and others in living in Norwalk now have a service they can use in case an elderly family member or child wanders off.
Norwalk police have announced the department is participating in the Project Lifesaver International Program in which families receive a small transmitter which can be worn by people who may wander off and not be able to take care of themselves, especially the elderly, including those with conditions such as Alzheimer’s, autism, traumatic brain injury or dementia.
The transmitter sends out an individualized tracking signal that police can use to find a missing person.

“Clients will meet monthly with a member of the trained team to check equipment, exchange batteries, and become familiar with the officers of the Norwalk Police Department,” Norwalk police said in a news release. “If the client becomes missing, their caregiver contacts the Norwalk Police Department. A trained team member responds as a part of the search effort and using specialized equipment, works quickly to locate the missing client.”
Project Lifesaver International Program says recovery times for clients average 30 minutes — 95 percent less time than average standard searches.
“The cost of the transmitter is $300; however, no client will be turned away. We will be working on getting donations to support funding for the program,” the news release said.
