Learn About Green Careers at Norwalk-Wilton Tree Festival

While the annual Norwalk-Wilton Tree Festival at Cranbury Park, which will be held this Saturday, is always a time for families to celebrate and enjoy the great outdoors, this year's attendees will also learn about growing opportunities for green careers.

According to Dan Dalton, a certified master arborist that works out of the New Rochelle, NY office of Almstead Tree and Shrub Care, surveys show that natural professions are attracting fewer college-bound students than previous generations. At the same time, however, "there has been a big change towards organics solutions to landscaping issues, creating greater career path oppportunites," he said in a press release.

Dalton is the organizer of an exhibit at the festival's midway and while there won't be any job openings listed, attendees will learn about the educational opportunites available throughout the state for those interested in a career in horticulture, landscape design or other green careers.

Dalton's exhibit is one of many that will be displayed at the midway. Almost 40 organizations will be represented and they will educate and entertain attendees free of charge.

Family activities, including a treasure hunt, a tree-rope climb and a picnic-style lunch are also planned. The festival will run from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. rain or shine.
