A 24 year-old Norwalk man was arrested on Saturday at a DUI checkpoint after police found over 171 grams of marijuana in his vehicle, according to police.
Officers station at the routine checkpoint pulled over the vehicle, which was being driven by Kenneth Vaughan of 9 Catalpa Street, and asked him to roll down his window, according to police. When he complied, the officer reported that she smelled marijuana and asked Vaughan if he recently smoked some, police said.
After Vaughan replied that he had smoked marijuana the day before, the officer then asked him if he had any in his possession, police said. After Vaughan said no, a second officer approached Vaughan's car with his canine. Vaughan then admitted that he had a large amount of the drug in his vehicle and, after searching, officers found one large bag of marijuana, one small bag of marijuana and a grinder. Vaughan was charged with failure to display a license, possession of drug paraphernalia near a school, possession of more than four ounces of a hallucinogen and illegal possession of drugs near a school. His bond was set at $25,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on May 29.
