Norwalk Patch's Top Stories of the Week
To say it was an eventful week in the city of Norwalk would be an understatement. From the election upset to the troubles at NEON, the only snorer was Halloween.

Fortunately, Halloween was uneventful. But not much else was. Harry Rilling unseated longtime Mayor Moccia. NEON's troubles boiled over. The Taste for Education thrilled tastebuds at Aitoro. The 31st annual Cavalcade of Bands had great weather and a huge turnout. And a flotilla of boats set sail to protest the detention of Norwalk captain Peter Willcox.
- On Thursday night at Aitoro, hundreds turned out for the fifth annual Taste for Education to help NEF raise funds to benefit the public school system. Restaurants and stores participating included: Bar Sugo, Bella Pasta, Cafe Madrid, BJ Ryans/ BANC House, Fountainhead Wines, Mama’s Boy, Saffron, Forever Sweet Bakery , Ninety 9 Bottles, Drinx Unlimited,Robeks and Solude Air Roasted Coffee.
- On Wednesday morning Nathan Hale students in Ted White's Family and Consumer Science class were busy washing hundreds of mushrooms that would eventually be stuffed with eggplant and roasted red pepper coulis and served at the Taste for Eduction.
- On Tuesday afternoon Patch visited with campaign volunteers who were busy distributing palm cards and candidates shaking hands and asking for votes outside three different polling places.
- On Tuesday night at around 9:20p.m. Mayor Moccia conceded the race to former longtime Police Chief Harry Rilling. The Mayor Elect thanked his family, his fleet of volunteers and his campaign manager before proclaiming, "We Have a mandate."
- On Thursday Nov. 7 the NEON board replaced beleaguered Chiquita Stephenson with Rev. Tommie Jackson after a turbulent week during which paychecks bounced, and families were unsure about their childcare situations.
- On Saturday afternoon at the Sound Sailing Center a flotilla of boats set sail for NYC in protest of the detention of Norwalk man, Peter Willcox. On Sept. 19, Captain Willcox's Greenpeace vessel "Arctic Sunrise" was boarded by helicopter and seized by the Russian Coast Guard. All 30 on board initially faced charges of piracy, which were later decreased to hooliganism. The Arctic 30 have been in detention for over six weeks.
- On Saturday Norwalk High School hosted the Cavalcade of Marching Bands. If you missed it, watch the video of the Marching Bears "ISpy!" show.
