NORWALK, CT — Police are investigating several reports of a recent scam involving a person impersonating a Norwalk officer, the department said Tuesday.

In a news release, Police Sgt. Ryan Evarts said the scam involves a caller falsely claiming the recipient has missed a court appearance and must pay a fine immediately.

In at least one instance, the impersonator used the name "Jason Wilson," Evarts said.

"This individual is not a Norwalk police officer," Evarts said in a news release.

Evarts noted the Norwalk Police Department will "never call or solicit money for missed court appearances or any legal matter. These calls are fraudulent."

Anyone who has received a call of this nature or fallen victim to this scam is urged to contact the department's dispatch at (203) 854-3113, according to Evarts.
