Norwalk Police Arrest Reckless Driver Following Pursuit

A 55-year-old Waterbury man engaged police in pursuit Monday after he allegedly threw a glass bottle out of his truck, which was reported by a concerned citizen, according to the arrest report.

Police initiated a traffic stop on North Main Street, but when the officer got out of his vehicle the driver took off, police said.

Norwalk police chased the man down Martin Luther King Drive and eventually terminated the pursuit after he began to pass other cars on Lowe Street, police said.

At about 8 p.m. officers located the suspect, identified as Nelson Aponte, at the Alexa Grocery store. A police K9 searched his car for contraband with negative results, according to the arrest report.

Norwalk police charged Aponte with reckless driving, engaging in pursuit, interfering with an officer, objects not to be thrown at a motor vehicle, and reckless driving, according to the arrest report.

Aponte was issued a $25,000 bond. He is due in court May 8.
