Norwalk Police Department Hiring 'Public Safety Telecommunicator'

NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Police Department is looking for its newest "public safety telecommunicator," a position that acts as a liaison between citizens with emergencies and/or complaints and responding personnel.
"Through the use of radio, computer terminal or telephone: receives reports of emergencies, non-emergency complaints or messages; transmits reports and messages to mobile units, persons or departments; and dispatches equipment and personnel to locations where fire, police, or emergency medical service is needed," the position description reads.
The dispatcher would be responsible for prioritizing incoming messages, determining an appropriate course of action and dispatching the appropriate personnel and equipment.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required for the position, and pay ranges from $60,128 - $76,748. The dispatcher will have to obtain certification as a Telecommunicator and an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) within one year of appointment, and must be COLLECT and NCIC certified within one (1) year of appointment.
