Obituary: John D. “Jack” Fitzgerald, 73

John D. “Jack” Fitzgerald, age 73, died Friday morning, Nov. 1, 2013 at the Norwalk Hospital. Jack was born in Norwalk on November 24, 1939, the son of the late John D. Fitzgerald Sr. and the late Veronica D. Fitzgerald. He was a former senior systems analyst with Mantech in Washington DC, a subcontractor for the U.S. Navy, and had previously worked at AMF in York PA.
Jack graduated from Fairfield Prep in 1957 and from Fairfield University in 1961. Jack was a great lover of Jazz music. During his early years in D.C., he hosted a radio program called “Jazz in Washington DC” at WGTB-FM. On his program he interviewed many noted Jazz musicians of the 30’s and 40’s. He also owned a book store on Wall Street in Norwalk in 1972-73.
In retirement he moved back to Norwalk in 2002. He was a member of the Laurel AC, the Norwalk Boat Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.He is survived by his sister, Sister Dolores Fitzgerald, a sister of St. Joseph, Brothers Eugene W. Fitzgerald and Kevin J. Fitzgerald and a sister Mary K. Spielman and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Brian A. Fitzgerald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 4, at 10:00 a.m. at St Jerome Church, 23 half Mile Rd, Norwalk, CT, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
