St. Matthew Knights of Columbus Assist Malta House

Knights of Columbus Norwalk Council 14360 continue to help those in the Fairfield County community on Saturday October 26 when some brother Knights went to Malta House in Norwalk to paint its nursery.  

Council 14360 has been working with Malta House since 2009 with donations and some maintenance work at their facility.  Back in 2010 the Knights painted rooms in the house and did yard work on the grounds.  They’ve also taken in collections over the years of necessities for those that need it most.

“Our council has been enjoying the relationship we have with an organization that is always helping women and children in need.  If we can make their house feel like home, that is what we are trying to accomplish," Grand Knight George Ribellino said.

Ribellino, his wife Heather, his daughter Mia, along with Scott Criscuolo, Tim Horne, Horne’s nephew Brandon, Mike Colaluca, Anthony Cossuto, Lee Pino and project chairman Bud Taylor helped in the painting. 

“Asking for help from so many people who respond so wonderfully with their willingness to help with projects that are meaningful to people and groups that have a need, really shows what the Knights of Columbus are really about," Bud Taylor said in the release. Taylor chaired the project.

"Everyone showed up eager to get the work underway, were willing to do whatever was needed to accomplish the task at hand and did so with wonderful energy and still keep a sense of camaraderie going the entire time it took to finish the job. Makes one truly aware of why we refer to each other as brothers," Taylor added.

Malta House relies heavily on volunteers and the hard work of others, and Executive Director Lucy Freeman said it best that night at their annual fall concert at Norwalk City Hall. 

"Today a group of gentlemen from the Knights of Columbus came to paint our nursery. The level of enthusiasm was incredibly humbling as I watched the men work and laugh with one another. It was so clear how much they were enjoying this volunteer experience. It just reminded me that I cannot do this work without volunteers," Freeman said.

Plans are in place for the Knights to return to Malta House in November to work on laying tile down on the nursery floor.
