A 26 year-old city woman was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for an incident in April in which she allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and then bribed and threatened two police officers after being taken into custody, according to police.
Shannon Landa of 3 Elmcrest Terrace was allegedly driving in front of two patrolmen on MLK Boulevard when they witnessed her driving erratically and tailgating an ambulance, police said.
The officers followed Landa's vehicle after it turned onto West Avenue and directed her to stop on Connecticut Avenue, police said. Upon approaching her vehicle, the officers noticed that Landa's eyes were glassy and that she appeared to be sluggish. When asked whether she was under the influence of alcohol, Landa said that she didn't have anything to drink, police said. While waiting for an ambulence to arrive, Landa became agitated, began yelling and insulting the officers and tried to exit the vehicle, police said. When the officers searched her car, they found a prescription bottle of oxycontin.
After handcuffing Landa and escorting her to the hospital, the officers said that she told them that her father lived in Cuba and thhat he was "above" the officers. When asked whether that was a threat, Landa replied that "it was a promise." The officers then said that Landa offered them as much as $400 and a homemade breakfast if they released her. Landa's blood alcohol level was 1.34, according to police.
Landa was charged with operation while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, bribery and second-degree threatening. Her bond is set at $10,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court on July 18.
