Oxford Society Holds 2nd Annual Fiber Fest

The event will feature a variety of fiber-producing animals. New to the Fiber Fest this year are alpacas and English Angora rabbits.

From The Oxford Historical Society: The Oxford Historical Society will hold their 2nd Annual Fiber Fest on May 22 and 23 from 10 to 4 on Saturday the 22nd, and from noon to 4 on Sunday, the 23rd at the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead at 60 Towner Lane, Oxford.

The event will feature a variety of fiber-producing animals. New to the Fiber Fest this year are alpacas and English Angora rabbits.

Frankie, a Blue-Eyed White English Angora rabbit, will be displayed by his owner, Dawn Sotir, an educator at the Derby Historical Society's David Humphrey's House. She is also a ranger, educator and wildlife rehabilitator at the Ansonia Nature Center. In addition to the rabbit, she will display and demonstrate some of her fiber work skills.

Other animals on display include alpacas from Alpacaboose Farm in Oxford.

Shearer Ron East will demonstrate shearing of Corriedale sheep at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, he will shear Molly the Merino at 1 p.m. Demonstrations of spinning and weaving will go on throughout the event. The program is suitable for all ages and admission is free.
