What Road in Oxford Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

OXFORD, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Oxford. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

"None, they are bumpy enough. Yet Riggs could use some help with keeping construction trucks in the correct lanes and not trying to run people off the road. And the amount of traffic cutting through the airport driving like NASCAR to get to the work site at the other side...WOW, just wow - unbelievable."

"No speed bumps, the roads need improvement. No more stop signs no more traffic lights."

"Moose Hill. It is so windy and people just fly by. And there are so many people who walk/run/bicycle on this road, it's a tragedy waiting to happen!"

"O'neill!"

"I moved to Florida from Connecticut a few years ago. We have speed bumps on many of the residential streets here, and it is a giant pain! Say no to the speed bumps. They don't make people better drivers and they will annoy the hell out of you all."

"Even though I dont live there, Pope Rd. I've talked to the 1st Seletmen in the past and was told no speed bumps because the plow trucks would ruin the plows. Well, they need to raise the plow when they approach a speed bump. Unless they can't read....there are signs."

"Chestnut Tree Hill Rd."
