Obituary: Mary Ann Ferland, 79, of Shelton

Mary, an exceptional foreign language teacher and beloved by her students, taught at both Johnson Academy and Wooster Junior High School.

SHELTON, CT - (From Adzima Funeral Home) Mary Ann Ferland, age 79, of Shelton, formerly of Stratford, beloved wife of Conrad Ferland, passed away on October 22, 2021, in her home.

Mary Ann was born in New Haven on August 29, 1942, daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Federowicz) Wuskle and had been a lifelong area resident.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Holy Family College and a master’s degree from Villanova University. Mary Ann retired from the Stratford School System in 2011, having taught at Johnson Academy and Wooster Junior High School.

She was an exceptional foreign language teacher, beloved by her students.

Mary Ann loved to vacation with family and friends in places like Cape Cod, Canada and Florida. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of visiting Paris in 2015. Mary Ann was very active in her church, and cherished her family, friends and colleagues.

Survivors in addition to her beloved husband of 53 years, include her devoted children, David Ferland and his wife Amy Pybus of Massachusetts, Danielle Ferland and her husband Michael Goldstein of New Jersey, and Sarah Ferland and her wife Tara Carriero of Wallingford, 6 cherished grandsons, Henry, Samuel, Noah, Evan, Jack, and Tyler.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was pre-deceased by her sister, Susan Wuskle.

Friends and family may visit on Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford. Masks are required, as visitors walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. meeting directly at St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane Stratford. Interment will be private.
