Shelton DAR Honors The U.S. Flag

Passersby at the Shelton Community Center got a crash course in the U.S. flag history recently as the Daughters of the American Revolution saluted the Stars and Stripes.
The program included a reading of the Preamble of U.S. Constitution and the singing of "America, the Beautiful."
"This is the flag of every loyal American citizen. (It is) the 1/3 oldest all national standards of the world. It is truly a symbol of all we are," said one speaker.
The Sarah Riggs Humphries-Mary Silliman Chapter of the Daughters if the American Revolution conducted the ceremony in the courtyard outside of the Community Center in Huntington Center.
Other flag facts include that the 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies, and the stars the 50 states. The colors of the flag have meaning: red for hardiness and valor, white for purity and innocence and blue for vigilance, perseverance and justice.
