Graduate of Simsbury High and Student at Julliard to Present Recital Sunday in Simsbury

This Sunday, Feb 22, First Church in Simsbury will hold a very special event.

At 3 p.m., violinist Mina Um —who has graced Simsbury with her prodigious violin playing in the near past — will present a recital in the sanctuary of First Church, 689 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. All are invited.

Simsbury’s own Mina, a graduate of Simsbury High School, attends Julliard in New York, is an absolutely brilliant violinist, and will be playing this solo recital to perform pieces that she will be doing in the International Music Competition in Seoul, South Korea.

To get to this point of being a finalist, she has performed concerts and competitions in Gstaad, Switzerland, Vienna, Austria, and Campos do Jordao, Brazil. Additionally she has been with the Hartford Symphony, the Boston Festival Orchestra, and as a soloist at Carnegie Hall.

She is one of a select group of students invited to return to the Julliard School’s Master of Music program. Just to round out her musical taste, she has appeared on Good Morning, America, with pop artist Nicki Minaj, and in there Victoria’s Secret Runway Show this past year in New York City.

This concert is free (free will donations accepted). Please come and enjoy a concert by a violinist that all will definitely hear great things from in the not too distant future.
