While some Granges have struggled to survive changing times and a hectic modern culture, a local chapter has redoubled its efforts to support area agriculture, attract younger members and bolster its community service efforts.
Simsbury Grange 197's efforts have included launching a junior grange, working more on community service, supporting farmers and making improvements to its 1930 building.
And on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the organization will host its agricultural fair at its hall at 236 Farms Village Road (Route 309). The fair is a long-time tradition but this marks the second year since it was resurrected after a lapse.

The fair will feature a variety of activities, exhibits and entertainment. Adults and children have the chance to show off their talents and compete in contests for ribbons and prizes.
