Juilliard Violinist Returns to Simsbury for Concert

Mina Um to perform at Eno Memorial Hall Sept. 16

For Juilliard violinist Mina Um her Sept. 16 concert at Eno Memorial Hall is all about the community.

She would like to thank the people of Simsbury for their support and in turn hopes they will help her realize her dreams of being a professional soloist.

Um, a 2009 Simsbury High School graduate, has received her bachelor's from Juilliard and is going on to work toward her master's.

She said she is looking forward to performing. The community was very accepting of her family, which came from Seoul, Korea when she was in elementary school.

"I've always wanted to come back and have a recital in my hometown Simsbury to say thank you to the kind townspeople," she said. "People were so friendly and welcoming."

The show will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16. No tickets are required but donations accepted.

Joining her will be pianist and fSHS graduate Ethan Kyzivat, a junior at Yale University.

The program will be:
Beethoven Violin Sonata No. 6 in A Major, Op. 30, No. 1
Schumann Violin Sonata No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 121
~Intermission~
Bartók Violin Concerto No. 1 Op. Posth.
Hubay Carmen Fantasy
The concerts will be streamed on SCTV.
