Portion of Route 10 Closed for a Period of Time Monday Afternoon After Accident, Natural Gas Leak

Updated 11:13 pm Monday

Route 10 from Canal Street to Powder Forest Drive was closed for approximately an hour and a half Monday afternoon after a car crashed into a gas line in front of the Claire Felice Hair Salon building near Mitchell Volvo.

There were no serious injuries and as of late afternoon, Connecticut Natural Gas crews had restored service to the area but were still working on service to the building, officials said.

Steve Moore, a master Volvo technician at Mitchell Volvo, said he was working in a bay when he heard the crash.

"I heard a crash and saw the car flip over," he said.

After assisting two women from the car, he and parts manager Steve Muller directed traffic away from the area until firefighters and police arrived, Moore said.

"It all happened so fast," Moore said.

Many area businesses were evacuated during the incident.
