Simsbury Homegoods Store Won't Open in 2012

Since the announcement last spring, many in the Farmington Valley have been eagerly awaiting the opening of a new Homegoods store in the Simsbury Commons shopping center. The question is—when will the store open?

In April, Charter Realty and Development announced that it had leased the 23,500-square-foot retail space that was once home to Borders Books & Music to HomeGoods, a TJX company. The space remains vacant and lifeless nearly 7 months later.

The retail home fashion store, which currently operates 11 stores in Conn., does not plan to open the new location any time soon, according to Philip Tracey, a spokesperson for the company.

"The store will be opening sometime next year, but unfortunately, we do not have an opening date set," Tracey told Simsbury Patch.

The town of Simsbury has not received any applications for signage or floor plans from the company.

Before the company moves forward with use of the space it will have to present plans to town officials for approval, Simsbury's Director of Planning Hiram Peck said.

Tracey told Patch that the company will release an announcement when it plans to move forward with the store opening.
