"The Town of Simsbury is grateful to have active citizens who care about their community and work to better it in any way they can," wrote the town in an announcement.

The program was initiated in 1986 by then-Gov. William O’Neill as part of the 350th Anniversary of the founding of Connecticut.

As part of this, towns were invited to designate residents as “Hometown Heroes” for any deed or service that made the community a better place to live.
