While many open mics may cater to a particular kind of music, that isn't the case Tuesday nights at the Iron Frog Tavern.
Whether it's quiet acoustic ballads, an hard-rock trio or contemplative poetry, each performer is given 15 minutes to shine — literally.
"We're zealously open," says hosts John Pitblado.
Except for a rare holiday, Pitblado hosts the open mic every Tuesday night from 9 p.m. until about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
On stage is a drum kit, bass amp, often a keyboard and some other instruments for those who don't have their own or want Pitblado or other musicians to join them on stage.
He's run the event for about two years now and Pitblado said it's been a great personal and musical journey.
"This has been great for me, finding this whole music community, meeting friends, etc.," he said.
Musicians can follow the open mic at its facebook page.
Those who can't get to the event at the beginning of the evening are welcome to contact him ahead of time on facebook or call the Iron Frog (860) 408-9626 shortly before 9 p.m. on a Tuesday to get on this list, Pitblado said.
The Iron Frog is located at 6 Wilcox St., Simsbury. Learn more about the restaurant on their facebook page or web site.
