Winds Cause Outages in Simsbury, Down Tree in Weatogue

Seventy-five customers were still without electric power in Simsbury as of 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Eversource (the new name for Connecticut Light & Power) after gusts of wind blew down trees and limbs across the state starting Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has a “Wind Advisory” in effect until 5 p.m. for Massachusetts, Rhode Island and the Connecticut counties of Hartford Windham and Tolland.

“Northwest wind gusts will bring down some large tree limbs and perhaps even a few trees, possibly causing power outages,” according to the Wind Advisory.

On Tuesday evening, Simsbury authorities received numerous reports of downed wires across town, WFSB-TV reported. In one of many reports of downed trees across the state, there was one for a tree on Aspenwood Drive in the Weatogue section of town, according to NBC Connecticut.

Here’s the Simsbury-specific forecast from the weather service (as of the 8:51 a.m., Wednesday update):

• Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 34. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph.
• Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 16. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.
• Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 36. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
• Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 19. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight.
• Friday: A chance of snow, mainly after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
• Friday Night: A chance of snow. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
• Saturday: Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 47.
• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26.
