The crowd is growing at the Southbury Farmer’s Market Thursday afternoon with area residents lining up for fresh vegetables, olive oils, and for those with a sweet tooth – apple cider donuts.
The cider donuts from Averill Farm in Washington Depot have been a staple of the market all summer, and a big hit with visitors of all ages.
“It’s been a great summer so far,” said employee Kerry Burns. “The donuts are always the first to go, people really like those.”

Cookies, dog biscuits and jams and jellies are also on display at the Averill Farm booth, but in a few weeks it will be all about the apples.
“Around late July we’ll have the first apples of the season, and those are always a favorite,” said Burns.
